My New Blog

Hi all this is DJ Swing your friendly neighborhood super duper international DJ blogging on his ... my...first blog!

I just had a crazy weekend spinning internationally.

A last min phone call had me (on a plane) down to the Dominican Republic to spin for a Memorial day hip hop party on Friday night, then flew (again on a plane) sat afternoon back to Miami!

Its so easy to type but man what a Mission to enact. I was at MIA for ever! our flight was delayed for 4 hours before we were off to the DR.
Quite the cast of characters in the airport i must say! oh and a quick tip if you have any "for dummies" book with you people will come up and talk to you!! don't say i didn't warn you.

After I landed I went through customs... they were like Jesse your from Miami! you have to pay $10.00 bucks to get into our country. Good thing I've been there before so i had the appropriate cash to go with the trip. MacGyver style (MacGyver I see you!)

I finally got out of the airport ... mind you now its 11:30 PM the party I was to DJ started at 11. I got in the cab and my cab driver is like hey do u have 20 bucks for gas... I'm like are u kidding me man, you don't have gas?! Or money for gas you didn't think of this before picking up a fair?!?! lets go! ( i realize now this was a kind of hustle but it still pissed me off)

Not wanting any more delays i said yes and cause we needed gas..we got gas ... we get to driving oh... did i mention that I flew into Santiago International air port! which was far, far away from Purto Plata where I needed to be for this gig! So we began a harrowing 90 min drive through the darkened mountains of the Dominican Republic. We went trough some towns, a tunnel, a few red lights, 4 or 5 bridges, and past some very well lit night hot spots, that was cool but mostly it was dark and creepy. The main road is 2 lanes it appears to have a dividing line at times but at other times not so much. Then we got to some spots where it was washed out! about 3/4 of the road was missing! scary!!! That and other meteor craters disguised as potholes and the cliff right off in the distance added to the treachery of the journey.

Cool part was the cabby new more English then I new Spanish and he asked me if I had a CD of one of my mixes I said yezer and I put it on and jamed out! His cab (van bus thing) had more treble then base but we figured it out and it added to the journey. Riding out to a mix I made in another country is fresh!

Our Dominican republic spec van buss thing had like 40 hpw it went no more then 40 mph I was like come on!!!! Can we go faster!!! But it wasn't gonna happen! I watched some scooters and some faster more Americanized cars drive past with gusto... I was jealous!

We finally arrived at the resort and Cortland my liaison linked up with us, he paid the cabby, and we jumped in the golf cart and headed to the party. We got there... it was packed!!! We pushed through the crowd (like a fuqqing celebrity!!! it was hot!) (and every one was in there underwear??) and then i had the mission of setting up my dj lap top set up in there old school booth. A dj booth that was dark and hot and some mysterious liquid was spilled all over the floor. After about 15 of English and Spanish talking (communicating?) and guesting with the resident dj min we figured out how to set up the sorato and got things bumping. the crowd was grateful and we all had fun. my set didn't start till 1:30 but it was all good. oh and i found out it was a lingerie pajama party.. who new?!

Music was fun, crowd was fun,
I was tired but it was good.

The following afternoon i was in another cab (much faster this time) and back on another plane (not as fast) back to good ol Miami!

And that was just half my weekend!
